The Art and Science of Measuring How You Think
There is a particular kind of audacity in trying to measure the mind.
We can weigh a stone. We can clock the speed of light. We can map the genome with a precision that would have seemed miraculous a generation ago. But the way a person thinks — the subtle architecture of attention, the rhythm of reasoning, the invisible dance between intuition and analysis — how do you put a ruler to that?
This is the question that has haunted psychometricians, cognitive scientists, and assessment designers for more than a century. And it is the question that stands at the heart of this chapter. Because if the Luminous Cognitive Styles™ framework is to be more than a beautiful idea — if it is to be genuinely useful in the lives of real people — it must find a way to be measured. Not perfectly. Not exhaustively. But honestly, rigorously, and with full awareness of what measurement can and cannot capture.
In the previous chapters, we explored the seven dimensions of cognitive style, their lived experience, their gifts and shadows, and their dynamic interplay. We painted portraits in words. Now we must ask: can we paint with numbers? Can we create assessment tools that honor the complexity of what we are measuring while still providing the clarity and specificity that practitioners, educators, and individuals need?
The answer, we believe, is yes — with humility. The tools we introduce in this chapter are not crystal balls. They are not definitive verdicts on who you are. They are lenses — carefully designed, empirically grounded, ethically constrained lenses that can help you see patterns in your own cognition that might otherwise remain invisible.
Let us begin with the foundation upon which all good assessment rests.
What Makes a Good Assessment? The Psychometric Foundation
Before we examine any specific assessment instrument, we need to understand the criteria by which instruments are evaluated. This is the domain of psychometrics — the science of psychological measurement — and while it can seem dry and technical, it is, in fact, one of the most consequential areas of applied psychology. A bad assessment tool can do real harm: misclassifying people, reinforcing stereotypes, creating false confidence, and closing doors that should remain open.
A good assessment tool, by contrast, can be genuinely transformative — but only if it meets certain rigorous standards.
Reliability: Does It Measure Consistently?
Reliability refers to the consistency of an instrument's measurements. If you step on a bathroom scale three times in a row and get three different weights, the scale is unreliable — even if one of the readings happens to be accurate.
In psychological assessment, we distinguish several types of reliability:
Test-retest reliability asks: if the same person takes the assessment twice (with an interval of, say, four to six weeks), do they get similar results? For cognitive style measures — which purport to measure relatively stable patterns — test-retest reliability should be high. As we noted in Chapter 2, the MBTI's test-retest reliability is disturbingly low, with up to 50% of test-takers receiving a different type classification within five weeks. A well-designed dimensional instrument should achieve test-retest correlations of 0.80 or higher on each dimension.
Internal consistency asks: do the items within the instrument that are supposed to measure the same construct actually correlate with each other? If a subscale measuring "holistic processing" includes ten items, those ten items should tend to be answered in similar ways by the same person. This is typically measured by Cronbach's alpha, with values above 0.70 considered acceptable and above 0.85 considered good.
Inter-rater reliability applies to assessment components that involve subjective judgment — such as interviews or observational protocols. It asks: if two different trained assessors evaluate the same person, do they arrive at similar conclusions?
The Luminous Cognitive Style Inventory (LCSI), which we will introduce shortly, incorporates multiple types of reliability checks — because no single reliability metric tells the whole story.
Validity: Does It Measure What It Claims to Measure?
Validity is the deeper and more complex question. A scale might be perfectly reliable — giving you the same number every time — while measuring something entirely different from what it claims. (Imagine a "creativity test" that actually measures vocabulary size. It might be very reliable, but it is not valid as a measure of creativity.)
Several types of validity are relevant:
Construct validity asks: does the instrument actually measure the theoretical construct it is designed to measure? For a cognitive style instrument, this means demonstrating that scores on the "holistic processing" dimension genuinely correlate with observable differences in how people perceive, organize, and respond to complex information — and not merely with how they describe themselves.
Criterion validity asks: do scores on the instrument predict real-world outcomes? For example, does a high score on the Divergent end of the Generative Orientation dimension predict performance on creative tasks? Does a high score on the Embodied end of Somatic Integration correlate with interoceptive accuracy (the ability to perceive one's own heartbeat, for instance)?
Content validity asks: does the instrument adequately cover the full scope of the construct it claims to measure? A cognitive style assessment that measures only how people process visual information, while ignoring verbal, social, and embodied dimensions, lacks content validity as a measure of overall cognitive style.
Discriminant validity asks: does the instrument measure something different from existing instruments? If a new cognitive style inventory correlates perfectly with the Big Five personality measure, it may simply be measuring personality by another name. A valid cognitive style instrument should show moderate but not excessive correlations with personality measures — reflecting genuine overlap (cognitive styles and personality are not entirely unrelated) without redundancy.
Sensitivity to Context and Development
Beyond the traditional psychometric standards, the Luminous framework adds two additional criteria that reflect its philosophical commitments:
Contextual sensitivity means that the assessment should be capable of capturing how a person's cognitive style shifts across different contexts — not merely their default position. An instrument that only measures your "home territory" misses the crucial dimensions of adaptive range and developmental edge.
Developmental sensitivity means that the assessment should be capable of tracking change over time — not just in the sense of test-retest reliability (which measures stability) but in the sense of genuine growth. If a person has been intentionally developing their capacity for ambiguity tolerance over the past year, a good assessment should be able to detect that development.
These additional criteria are demanding. They require assessment designs that go beyond simple self-report questionnaires. And that is exactly what the Luminous Cognitive Style Inventory does.

A Survey of Existing Cognitive Style Assessments
Before introducing the LCSI, let us survey the landscape of existing cognitive style assessments. Understanding what has come before — and where each instrument succeeds and falls short — provides essential context for appreciating what the Luminous approach contributes.
Witkin's Embedded Figures Test (EFT)
Herman Witkin's Embedded Figures Test, developed in the 1950s, remains one of the most elegant cognitive style assessments ever created. The task is deceptively simple: find a simple geometric shape hidden within a complex, visually confusing figure.
People who are field-independent find the hidden figure quickly and easily — they naturally extract discrete elements from a complex background. People who are field-dependent (or field-sensitive, in more contemporary terminology) find the task more difficult — their perceptual system tends to process the whole field as an integrated gestalt.
Strengths: The EFT is a performance-based measure — it assesses what people actually do, not what they say they do. This makes it relatively immune to social desirability bias and self-deception. It also has strong test-retest reliability and well-documented correlations with real-world behaviors.
Limitations: The EFT measures only one dimension of cognitive style (field independence/dependence). It is a spatial-visual task, which may disadvantage people with visual processing differences. And its binary scoring system (fast/accurate = field-independent; slow/inaccurate = field-dependent) does not capture the full spectrum of perceptual styles.
Kagan's Matching Familiar Figures Test (MFFT)
Jerome Kagan's MFFT measures cognitive tempo — the reflective-impulsive dimension. Test-takers are shown a standard figure and several similar variants, and must identify which variant exactly matches the standard. The key metrics are response time and number of errors.
Strengths: Like the EFT, the MFFT is performance-based. It captures an important dimension of cognitive processing that self-report measures often miss, because people's beliefs about their own processing speed are often inaccurate.
Limitations: The MFFT was primarily developed for use with children and may not be well-suited to adult populations. Its two-dimensional scoring system (fast/slow × accurate/inaccurate) creates four categories rather than a true continuum. And it measures only one dimension of cognitive style.
Kolb's Learning Style Inventory (LSI)
David Kolb's LSI, first published in 1971, assesses preferences along two dimensions — concrete experience vs. abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation vs. reflective observation — yielding four learning styles: Diverging, Assimilating, Converging, and Accommodating.
Strengths: Kolb's model is grounded in a coherent theoretical framework (experiential learning theory) and has been widely used in educational and organizational settings. The LSI is practical, easy to administer, and generates results that are immediately actionable.
Limitations: As a self-report instrument, the LSI is vulnerable to the gap between how people think they think and how they actually think. Its psychometric properties are mixed — several studies have found relatively weak internal consistency and factor structures that do not cleanly replicate across populations. And, like the MBTI, it categorizes people into types rather than placing them on continuous dimensions.
Riding's Cognitive Styles Analysis (CSA)
Richard Riding's CSA, developed in the 1990s, is a computer-based assessment that measures two dimensions: wholist-analytic (the tendency to process information as wholes or parts) and verbal-imagery (the tendency to think in words or images). The CSA uses reaction-time tasks rather than self-report.
Strengths: The CSA is performance-based and computer-administered, which reduces administrator bias and increases standardization. It measures two important dimensions simultaneously.
Limitations: The CSA has been criticized for low test-retest reliability, particularly on the verbal-imagery dimension. Its two-dimensional model, while elegant, does not capture the full complexity of cognitive style. And the computer-based format, while reducing some biases, introduces others — comfort with technology, for instance, can affect performance.
What the Landscape Tells Us
Surveying these instruments reveals a clear pattern: each captures something real but partial. The performance-based measures (EFT, MFFT, CSA) are more objective but narrower in scope. The self-report measures (LSI, MBTI) are broader but more subjective and psychometrically weaker.
No existing instrument measures all seven dimensions of the Luminous framework. None captures the adaptive range or developmental edge. None integrates somatic or relational dimensions of cognition. And none was designed within a developmental, non-hierarchical philosophical framework.
The Luminous Cognitive Style Inventory was designed to address these gaps — not by replacing existing instruments but by transcending and including their contributions within a more comprehensive architecture.
The Luminous Cognitive Style Inventory (LCSI)
The LCSI is not a single test. It is a multi-method assessment system composed of five integrated components, each designed to capture a different facet of cognitive style that no single method can adequately assess alone.
This multi-method approach is not mere complexity for its own sake. It reflects a fundamental conviction: cognitive style is too rich, too contextual, and too dynamic to be captured by any single instrument. A self-report questionnaire captures how you perceive your own thinking. A cognitive task captures how you actually perform. An interview captures how your thinking has evolved. By integrating multiple methods, the LCSI creates a portrait that is more honest, more complete, and more useful than any single method could provide.
Component 1: The Dimensional Self-Report (DSR)
The DSR is a carefully constructed questionnaire consisting of 84 items — 12 for each of the seven dimensions. Each item presents a brief scenario or statement and asks the respondent to indicate their level of agreement or their preferred response on a seven-point Likert scale.
Critically, the DSR does not simply ask people where they fall on each dimension. ("Are you more analytic or holistic?" — such direct questions are almost useless because most people's self-concept is inaccurate.) Instead, it presents specific, concrete situations and asks how the person would typically respond.
Example item (Perceptual Mode dimension):
When you enter an unfamiliar room for the first time, you are most likely to:
(a) Notice the overall atmosphere, the general layout, and how the space feels
(b) Notice specific details — the artwork on the walls, the type of flooring, the arrangement of furniture
Example item (Somatic Integration dimension):
When making a difficult decision, to what extent do you pay attention to physical sensations in your body (e.g., tightness, openness, restlessness)?
1 (Never) ——— 4 (Sometimes) ——— 7 (Almost always)
The DSR also includes items designed to measure contextual variation — asking respondents to rate their tendencies in different settings (at work, at home, in creative pursuits, in relationships). This allows the DSR to capture not just home territory but adaptive range.
Component 2: The Cognitive Task Battery (CTB)
The CTB is a set of performance-based tasks administered on a computer or tablet. Unlike the DSR, which asks people to describe their thinking, the CTB observes how they actually perform on tasks designed to activate different cognitive style dimensions.
The battery includes:
- A modified embedded figures task (measuring Perceptual Mode)
- A decision-speed task with varying levels of available information (measuring Processing Rhythm)
- A divergent uses task paired with a convergent optimization problem (measuring Generative Orientation)
- A dual-coding task that requires processing both verbal and spatial information (measuring Representational Channel)
- A collaborative reasoning task completed both individually and in dialogue with a partner (measuring Relational Orientation)
The CTB provides behavioral data that can be compared with self-report data from the DSR. Discrepancies between the two are often among the most interesting findings — revealing gaps between how people think they think and how they actually think.
Component 3: The Relational Mapping Exercise (RME)
The RME is a structured exercise in which the test-taker describes their cognitive patterns in the context of key relationships — with a partner, a close friend, a supervisor, a team, and in solitude.
This component addresses one of the most significant gaps in traditional cognitive style assessment: the failure to capture how relational context shapes cognition. Many people think very differently when they are alone versus when they are in conversation, when they are with someone they trust versus someone they distrust, when they are in a position of authority versus a position of deference.
The RME uses a combination of guided reflection and structured rating scales to map these relational shifts across the seven dimensions. The result is a relational profile that reveals not just your default cognitive style but the ways in which your cognition is shaped by the social field.
Component 4: The Somatic Awareness Protocol (SAP)
The SAP is, to our knowledge, the only cognitive style assessment component that directly measures the somatic dimension of cognition. It consists of two parts:
Part A: Interoceptive Awareness Assessment. This includes standardized measures of interoceptive accuracy (the ability to perceive internal bodily signals) and interoceptive sensibility (the tendency to attend to bodily signals). These measures have been validated in the embodied cognition literature and provide an objective anchor for the somatic dimension.
Part B: Somatic Decision Protocol. The test-taker is presented with a series of low-stakes decisions and asked to make each decision using three different strategies: (1) purely analytical reasoning, (2) purely somatic awareness ("What does your body tell you?"), and (3) an integrated approach. Response times, confidence ratings, and subsequent satisfaction ratings are compared across the three conditions.
The SAP is explicitly not a measure of whether somatic cognition is "better" or "worse" than cerebral cognition. It is a measure of the degree to which somatic channels are accessible and integrated in a person's cognitive repertoire.

Some individuals may have complex relationships with bodily awareness due to trauma, chronic pain, or other factors. The SAP includes screening questions and opt-out provisions for any participant who finds the somatic exercises uncomfortable or distressing. No assessment is worth causing harm.

Component 5: The Developmental Interview (DI)
The final component of the LCSI is a semi-structured interview conducted by a trained Luminous practitioner. The interview typically lasts 45 to 60 minutes and explores the developmental history of the test-taker's cognitive style.
Key questions include:
- How has your way of thinking changed over the course of your life?
- Can you identify specific experiences, relationships, or challenges that shifted how you process information?
- Are there cognitive capacities you have deliberately developed? Capacities you feel you have lost or suppressed?
- How does your cultural background shape how you think and how you think about thinking?
The DI provides the narrative context that no standardized instrument can capture. It reveals the lived meaning of a person's cognitive style — not just what the patterns are but how they were formed, what they mean to the person, and where the person senses the possibility of growth.
The DI is scored using a structured rubric that identifies the test-taker's position on each dimension, the historical trajectory of development, and the most promising developmental edges. Inter-rater reliability for DI scoring is maintained through regular calibration sessions among trained practitioners.
Interpreting Results: The Cognitive Signature Report
When all five components of the LCSI have been completed, the results are integrated into a Cognitive Signature Report — a comprehensive document that presents the test-taker's cognitive profile across three layers.
Layer 1: Home Territory
The Home Territory profile shows the test-taker's characteristic position on each of the seven dimensions, represented visually as points on seven parallel spectrums. This is the "at a glance" portrait — the pattern of cognitive tendencies that defines the person's default mode of engagement.
Critically, the Home Territory profile is derived from the convergence of multiple data sources — not from any single component alone. Where the DSR and CTB agree, confidence in the placement is high. Where they disagree, the report flags this discrepancy as a point of interest.
Layer 2: Adaptive Range
The Adaptive Range is shown as a band around each Home Territory point, indicating the span of positions the person is capable of accessing in different contexts. This band is derived primarily from the RME (which captures relational variation) and the DSR's contextual items.
A narrow adaptive range on a given dimension suggests consistency — the person tends to process similarly regardless of context. A wide adaptive range suggests flexibility — the person shifts significantly depending on the situation. Neither is inherently better; what matters is whether the range is adequate for the demands of the person's life.
Layer 3: Developmental Edge
The Developmental Edge is identified through the integration of all five components, with particular emphasis on the DI. It represents the specific areas where growth is most available and most likely to be meaningful.
The Developmental Edge is not a prescription. It is an invitation — a suggestion of where intentional practice might yield the greatest expansion of cognitive freedom. Some people choose to develop their edges; others choose to deepen their home territory. Both are valid paths.
Case Study: Marcus's Cognitive Signature
Marcus, a forty-two-year-old high school principal, completed the full LCSI as part of a leadership development program. His Cognitive Signature Report revealed the following:
Home Territory: Strongly Analytic (2.1/10), moderately Deliberative (3.4/10), moderately Convergent (3.8/10), Verbal-Symbolic (2.5/10), moderately Autonomous (3.2/10), Cerebral (2.0/10), and strongly Closure-Seeking (1.8/10).
In narrative terms: Marcus was a systematic, precise, verbal, independent thinker who valued clarity and decisiveness. These qualities had served him extraordinarily well in his career — his school was known for its organized systems and clear expectations.
Adaptive Range: Most dimensions showed moderate range, with one striking exception: on the Relational Orientation dimension, Marcus's range extended dramatically toward the Connected end (up to 7.5) when he was with students — but collapsed back to strongly Autonomous (2.0) in faculty meetings and administrative contexts.
The RME revealed what the DSR alone had missed: Marcus had a powerful capacity for relational, connected cognition that he deployed naturally with young people but suppressed entirely with adult colleagues. The Developmental Interview uncovered the story behind this pattern: early career experiences with manipulative administrators had taught Marcus to "protect his thinking" in professional peer contexts.
Developmental Edge: The report identified two primary edges: (1) expanding his Relational Orientation range in adult professional contexts, and (2) developing greater Ambiguity Tolerance in strategic planning, where his strong Closure-Seeking tendency sometimes led to premature commitment to plans that later needed revision.
Marcus described the experience of receiving his report as "like someone turned on a light in a room I'd been navigating in the dark." The report did not tell him anything he hadn't, on some level, already sensed. But it gave him language, specificity, and permission to engage with patterns that had previously been invisible.
The Quick Profile: A Simplified Assessment
The full LCSI is a comprehensive assessment that requires several hours and a trained practitioner. It is the gold standard for anyone seeking a deep, multi-layered understanding of their cognitive style.
But not every situation calls for the gold standard. Teachers need quick, practical tools for their classrooms. Team leaders need efficient methods for understanding their team's cognitive composition. Individuals seeking initial self-awareness need an accessible entry point.
For these purposes, the Luminous framework offers the Quick Profile — a simplified, self-administered assessment that provides a useful (if less precise) approximation of a person's cognitive signature.
How the Quick Profile Works
The Quick Profile consists of 21 items — three for each of the seven dimensions. Each item presents a pair of statements representing opposite ends of a dimension, and the respondent places themselves on a seven-point scale between the two.
Example:
When solving a complex problem, I tend to:
[Break it into smaller parts and address each systematically] 1 — 2 — 3 — 4 — 5 — 6 — 7 [Step back and look for the overall pattern before diving in]
The Quick Profile takes approximately ten minutes to complete and can be self-scored. The resulting profile shows approximate positions on each dimension — enough to spark meaningful self-reflection and productive conversation, even though it lacks the precision and depth of the full LCSI.
When to Use the Quick Profile
- Personal exploration: When you want a starting point for self-reflection, not a definitive assessment.
- Team workshops: When you need a shared vocabulary for discussing cognitive diversity within a team, without the time or budget for full assessments.
- Educational settings: When teachers want to develop awareness of cognitive diversity in their classrooms.
- Couples and families: When partners or family members want to explore their cognitive differences with curiosity and humor.
When NOT to Use the Quick Profile
- High-stakes decisions: Do not use the Quick Profile for hiring, placement, clinical referral, or any decision with significant consequences for an individual. These situations require the full LCSI or, in clinical contexts, referral to a qualified professional.
- Research: The Quick Profile is not psychometrically validated for research purposes. Use the full LCSI for any study that requires rigorous measurement.
- As a substitute for professional assessment: The Quick Profile is a flashlight, not an MRI. It illuminates broad patterns, but it cannot capture the nuance, context, and developmental depth that the full LCSI provides.

The Ethics of Assessment
Every act of measurement is also an act of power. When you assess someone — even when you assess yourself — you are making claims about the nature of reality. You are saying: this pattern is real, this number is meaningful, this interpretation is valid. These claims carry weight, and with that weight comes responsibility.
The Luminous framework takes assessment ethics seriously — not as an afterthought but as a foundational design principle. The following ethical guidelines are woven into every aspect of the LCSI and the Quick Profile.
Consent and Transparency
No one should ever be assessed without their informed, voluntary consent. This means that before taking any Luminous assessment, a person should understand:
- What is being measured and why
- How the results will be used, stored, and shared
- Who will have access to the results
- The limitations of the assessment — what it can and cannot tell you
- Their right to decline or withdraw at any time
This may seem obvious, but it is routinely violated in organizational settings where personality assessments are presented as mandatory or where results are shared with managers without the individual's explicit permission. The Luminous framework prohibits both practices.
Avoiding Weaponization
Cognitive style information can be used to understand or to manipulate. It can be used to build bridges or to construct hierarchies. The ethical line is clear: cognitive style information should always be used to expand possibility, never to constrain it.
Specific prohibitions:
- No hiring or firing decisions based solely on cognitive style profiles
- No pathologizing of any position on any dimension ("Your Closure-Seeking score is too high — you need to fix that")
- No stereotyping based on dimensional positions ("Of course she disagrees — she's a Holistic thinker")
- No coercive self-disclosure in any context — no one should be pressured to share their cognitive profile
Cultural Sensitivity in Assessment
All assessment instruments carry cultural assumptions. The LCSI is no exception. While every effort has been made to design culturally fair items and to norm the instrument across diverse populations, we acknowledge that:
- Some dimensions may manifest differently across cultures (for example, the Autonomous/Connected dimension may have very different expressions in individualist vs. collectivist societies)
- The language of the assessment — even in translation — may carry cultural connotations that affect response patterns
- The very concept of "cognitive style" as an individual attribute reflects a Western individualist framework that may not fully resonate in all cultural contexts
The LCSI includes a cultural context module that asks respondents about the cultural factors that shape their thinking, and trained practitioners are expected to integrate cultural awareness into their interpretation of results.
Data Privacy and Confidentiality
Cognitive style data is personal data. It deserves the same protections as any other sensitive personal information. The Luminous framework requires:
- Encrypted storage of all assessment data
- Individual control over who can access results
- No sale or commercial sharing of assessment data
- Right to have data deleted upon request
- Clear data retention policies communicated in advance
The Limits of Self-Report
Finally, an ethical assessment framework must be honest about the limitations of its own methods. Self-report instruments — including the DSR and the Quick Profile — are limited by the respondent's self-awareness, honesty, and cultural conditioning. People may describe themselves as they wish to be, as they believe they are, or as they think the assessor wants them to be — none of which may correspond to how they actually process information.
This is why the LCSI includes performance-based, relational, somatic, and interview components alongside self-report. No single method is sufficient. Triangulation — the convergence of multiple data sources — is the best protection against the inherent limitations of any individual method.

- The Measurement Meditation: Before taking any assessment (including the Quick Profile in Appendix B), spend five minutes sitting quietly with the question: What am I hoping this assessment will tell me? What am I afraid it might tell me? Notice your relationship with being measured. This awareness will help you hold your results with the right combination of openness and perspective.
- The Observer Practice: Choose one day this week to observe your own cognitive processing as if you were a friendly, curious researcher. Notice: How do you process information at different times of day? In different contexts? With different people? Jot down three specific observations. Compare these observations with your intuitive self-assessment on the seven dimensions. Where do they align? Where do they surprise you?
- The Ethics Conversation: Find a trusted colleague or friend and discuss: Have you ever been assessed in a way that felt reductive, invasive, or unfair? Have you ever been assessed in a way that felt genuinely illuminating? What made the difference? This conversation builds the critical awareness needed to use assessment tools wisely.

- What is your relationship with being measured or assessed? Do you tend to approach assessments with excitement, anxiety, skepticism, or something else? What does this suggest about your cognitive tendencies — particularly on the Closure-Seeking ↔ Ambiguity-Embracing dimension?

🛠️ Practical Exercise: The Three-Source Self-Assessment
This exercise invites you to triangulate your own cognitive style data using three different sources — approximating, in a simplified way, the multi-method approach of the LCSI.
Step 1: Self-Report
Complete the Quick Profile in Appendix B (or, if you have not reached the appendix yet, rate yourself on each of the seven dimensions using a 1–10 scale based on the descriptions in Chapters 3 and 4). Record your seven scores.
Step 2: Behavioral Evidence
For each dimension, identify one specific, recent behavior that provides evidence for your self-reported position. For example: "I rated myself as 7/10 on Holistic processing. Evidence: Last Tuesday, when reviewing the quarterly report, I spent the first twenty minutes looking at overall trends before examining any specific line items."
If you cannot find behavioral evidence for a self-reported position, flag that dimension — it may indicate a gap between your self-concept and your actual cognitive behavior.
Step 3: External Perspective
Ask one person who knows you well to rate you on the seven dimensions (sharing the dimension descriptions with them). Compare their ratings with your own. Where are the largest discrepancies?
Step 4: Integration
Look at your three data sources side by side. Where do they converge? That convergence likely reflects a genuine, stable pattern. Where do they diverge? Those divergences are invitations to curiosity — places where your self-awareness may be evolving.
Record your reflections. This exercise is not a definitive assessment — it is a practice in the kind of multi-perspective self-inquiry that the Luminous approach invites.
